Research has explored the potential benefits of acupuncture in areas such as stress, pain management, and overall wellbeing. For example:

  • Acupuncture may help reduce perceived stress in controlled trials.¹.

  • Acupuncture has shown benefits for musculoskeletal pain like low back pain in RCTs².

  • Randomized controlled trials have also explored acupuncture’s impact on quality of life in specific populations, finding improvements in wellbeing measures such as daily functioning and emotional health³.

These studies highlight the evolving understanding of acupuncture within a research context. At our clinic, we use this knowledge to inform a personalised, balanced approach, integrating ancient practice with contemporary insight

Acupuncture

Needle Therapy

Acupuncture is a time-honoured therapy involving the insertion of fine, sterile needles at carefully chosen points. Traditionally used to encourage the flow of Qi (energy) and a harmonious state, people often choose acupuncture to support areas such as:
• Management of occasional discomfort
• Stress, tension and emotional wellbeing
• Digestive concerns
• Hormonal fluctuations
• Support for healthy sleep patterns

Chinese Herbal  Medicine

Natural Remedies

Herbal medicine employs carefully selected plant extracts and natural blends to encourage your body’s own rhythms and foster a sense of ease.

We offer patent (pre-packaged) Chinese herbal preparations. These are ready-made formulations based on traditional Chinese medicine principles and are supplied in tablet or capsule form, sourced from reputable suppliers to ensure safety and quality, and are only recommended when appropriate to your individual needs.

Many choose herbal support for:
• Gentle digestive comfort
• Nurturing immune resilience
• Calming emotional balance
• Support during life’s natural fluctuations
• Overall sense of vitality and renewal

Chinese Dietary Therapy

Diet Therapy

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, food is considered an important part of supporting health and wellbeing. Dietary therapy focuses on selecting foods that may help maintain the body’s natural balance and harmony. Foods are chosen for their energetic properties - such as warming or cooling effects and flavours - and their traditional association with supporting different organ systems.

At our clinic, wherever possible, we guide clients toward dietary therapy first, using thoughtful food choices to support their unique constitution and encourage a sense of harmony. Chinese herbal therapy may also be offered as a complementary option when appropriate.

Cupping Therapy

Suction Healing

Cupping therapy employs suction cups placed on the skin to encourage the body’s natural rhythms and support a feeling of ease. Many choose cupping to support:
• Muscle comfort and flexibility
• A gentle shift in tension and tension release
• Enhanced circulation and fluid flow
• Respiratory ease and gentle breathing support
• A tranquil sense of relaxation and renewal

Moxibustion

Heat Therapy

Moxibustion uses the soft warmth of burning moxa placed just above the skin to evoke a comforting flow of energy. Many choose this practice to support:
• A nurturing sense of warmth during cooler, damper seasons
• A gentle encouragement of natural vitality
• A calm, grounding ritual for seasonal balance

Tuina

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Remedial Massage

Tuina is a form of therapeutic massage focusing on promoting the body’s natural balance and supporting overall wellbeing through hands-on techniques, guided by TCM principles such as the flow of Qi (energy) and the balance of Yin and Yang.

Unlike conventional massage, which often focuses primarily on muscle relaxation, Tuina is designed to work with the body’s energy pathways and may also include techniques to support joint movement and muscle function.

Meet Dr. Sue Sheppard

BHSc Acupuncture

Welcome to my sanctuary of gentle care. I’m Sue Sheppard, and I draw on a lifetime of movement, ancient wisdom, and modern insight to accompany you on a path toward greater harmony.

Growing up in Adelaide as the daughter of an Aussie Rules Boundary Umpire, I learned early how the body - and the spirit - flourish when kept active and engaged. Sport became my compass, guiding me from a career in IT into the world of athletics. An unexpected job change led me to finding my stride in running - boundary umpiring on the field and celebrating victories in 21 professional races, including the Stawell Gift (400 m) and Bay Sheffield (800 m).

When Bell’s Palsy arrived as an uninvited teacher, it opened my eyes to the subtle dance between mind and body, revealing how intention and breath can weave resilience into our daily lives. This transformative experience sparked my ongoing journey into holistic health and led me to discover the ancient art of acupuncture - integrating it alongside my IT work to offer a uniquely balanced perspective of work and self-care.

Today, I offer acupuncture and supportive therapies that honour your body’s own wisdom - inviting its innate rhythms to unfold in a calm, nurturing environment. Whether you’re exploring gentle renewal or deepening your wellness practice, I’m here to guide and support you.

When I’m not in clinic, you’ll find me wandering country markets in the Adelaide Hills, curled up with a book and a coffee, or sharing laughter outdoors with family and friends. I’d be honoured to walk alongside you as you explore your unique journey toward vibrant wellbeing.
